August 2018 - In a controlled experiment, we were able to accelerate the reduction of post surgical inflammation for a knee replacement patient by using two techniques rarely used by other home health agencies. As of January 2019 we are documenting this case study in which a 71 year old was able to walk without an assistive device 5 days after surgery, take an 8-mile bike ride in the 6th day and return to work on day 7. We plan to present these findings to select orthopedic practices in 2019 as part of a proposal to speed up recovery and reduce the number of therapy visits for the typical knee replacement patient.
April 2018 - At the LeadingAge Conference we announced a new free service called Aspiration Prevention. This service entails having one of our SLP's give a brief in-service at the start of a meal to enable staff to better observe all residents during the meal. Afterwards, the SLP will meet with staff to collaborate on interventions, including possible diet changes, for those who may be exhibiting early signs of dysphasia and/or aspiration.

After 7 months of 3-day a week use of ankle weights as part of the enhanced AROM program, this 88 year old resident regained enough strength to be able to sit-to-stand from her wheelchair and walk on her own.
