We have brought our highly publicized, evidence based fall prevention expertise to many senior communities in Illinois. We have factual data and dozens of testimonials from residents saying that they stopped falling once our therapists got them strong enough to put on ankle weights, stand up and "pump iron" doing the Otago routines while standing behind a chair.
These routines were tested for a yea by the Otago MedIcal School in New Zealand in 1999 using 900 participants average age 84. These results were examined by the CDC as part of its 2008 study of over 800 programs and resulted in the Otago program being endorsed as one of only 6 geriatric fall prevention programs in the world that had the evidence to prove it was effective.
Option 1 has us conducting free monthly in-services along with repetitive fall risk measurement clinics using the TUG (Timed up and GO) protocol in which we report changes in every resident's fall risk and lower body strength to the nursing staff.
Option 2 has us do the above risk clinics and in-services but in addition we either train your staff to implement the group exercise program or we have a member of our staff implement it.
Training of your staff includes a license to use our trademark protected program which will cover our proven motivational techniques, the Otago PRE (Progressive Resistance Exercise) routines and also our copyright protected ankle weight progression processes.
In New Zealand in 1999, those who did the exercises 3-times a week for a year with ankle weights fell 35% less then those who did not do the exercises. We tested an improved group version of this program for 12-months in an Illinois SLF in which those who did the exercises 3 times a week fell 54% less than those who did not.
